Anti-Aging Milk? Scientists Stunned

What The Research Actually Shows

A 2022 review found camel milk can counter signs of aging and may work as a naturopathic treatment for autoimmune disease. That review pulled together animal studies showing lower oxidative stress after camel milk exposure, plus reduced swelling and joint damage in rats with arthritis. A 2024 review built on that, describing camel milk as a functional food with real antiaging potential through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action.

The science gets more specific in a 2017 study on rats with rheumatoid arthritis. Camel milk lowered harmful inflammatory chemicals like TNF-alpha and nitric oxide, while boosting protective antioxidants like glutathione. A 2025 review went further, naming the biological pathways involved, including one called NF-κB inhibition, which blocks inflammation at the cellular switch.

Perhaps the most eye-catching result comes from a 2024 study on lung inflammation in rats. Camel milk reduced systemic inflammation and oxidative stress tied to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and researchers found it worked better than dexamethasone, a standard steroid drug, in that model. Separate research also found camel milk reduced oxidative stress and inflammation in the spleen, an organ central to immune function.

Why Scientists Are Still Cautious

Here is the catch. Almost every one of these encouraging results comes from animals, not people. Rats with arthritis or lung damage are not the same as a healthy 55-year-old drinking a glass of camel milk hoping to age better. No study in the research reviewed here tracked human aging markers like muscle strength, frailty, or cognitive decline in people who drank camel milk over time.

The language in these reviews reflects that gap. Researchers use words like “may” and “potential” rather than proof. A 2024 review openly frames the antiaging findings as coming from “preclinical studies,” which is scientific shorthand for lab and animal work that has not yet been tested in real human trials. That is not a knock on the science. It is simply where the evidence currently stands.

Some of the supporting research also blends camel milk with other non-cow milks rather than isolating camel milk on its own, which makes it harder to credit camel milk specifically for every benefit described. And several of the strongest results come from disease models, like arthritis and lung inflammation, rather than from otherwise healthy aging adults, the exact population the “healthy aging” claim is about.

Where The Science Goes From Here

A 2026 review and meta-analysis has already started comparing camel milk and camel hump oil against plant-based oils for age-related oxidative stress and inflammation, a sign researchers are pushing this question further. Scientists studying the topic have laid out a clear next step: randomized human trials that track real aging measures, like grip strength, walking speed, and blood markers of inflammation, over months rather than days.

Until those human trials exist, camel milk sits in a familiar spot for nutrition science. The lab work is genuinely promising, and the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms are well documented. But turning that into a confident claim about slowing human aging requires the kind of controlled human study that has not yet been done. That gap between mechanism and proof is exactly what serious researchers are now trying to close.
